mad skillzzzzzz. . .

I am still amazed when I manage to accomplish something handy.  I don’t mean build something from Ikea or unclog a toilet – two skillz I am well versed in. . .but complete a task in which I was sure the resolution would’ve involved buying something new.

Ages ago we received a king sized down filled duvet from my grandmother as an engagement present.  Yes we live in socal, but trust me, a nice light weight duvet is delicious even here!  So we got all excited and went charging out to buy a fancy bedding set. . .spent a fortune and then were disappointed to find the duvet cover was the button up kind!

I’d never seen one with buttons!  Plus it didn’t have those handy little ties in the corners!  Later upon lamenting to my grandmother she calmly explained that she used to add those corner ties I find so handy to both the duvet and cover.

Well it wasn’t until today that I finally got my act together and made my fancy duvet cover a little more user friendy!

It was so easy, I’m again wondering why I let it sit for so long.

The tools needed:

Buttoned duvet cover, a roll of zipper to cut to desired length, and some clips – I upgraded the wonder clips to the larger size you will see in the later photos.  I’ll use the FQ bundle ties to make the corner ties later.

Press the edges of the duvet opening and sew closed one end of the zipper.  Go ahead and keep the buttons attached.

Starting with the button hole side of the duvet edge, I used a couple wonder clips at the very beginning to hold everything together and steady.  But once I secured the zipper. . .

. . .I just lined the zipper and duvet edge together and fed it through my machine. . .

With the zipper teeth still closed, make a pencil mark on the zipper side not yet attached. . .

Unzip the zipper, line it up on the the other side. . .

. . .the buttons finally have a use since keeping the duvet witihin the duvet cover was not one!

TahDah!

So quick, so easy and I’m kicking myself for not doing it sooner!  So now that I am thoroughly pleased with myself, we’re going for ice cream ;) enjoy the rest of your Sunday!
